On February 7, 2023, at the premises of the Hilton Hotel in Podgorica, the UN and the governments of Switzerland and Montenegro signed a 2,5 million EUR contribution to Montenegro SDG Acceleration Fund. 

The Fund is reported to be a new-generation financial tool established by the UN Montenegro team, which seeks to consolidate donor funds that will be directed towards strategic development initiatives in three priority areas of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework: 
  1. inclusive economic development and environmental sustainability, 
  2. human capital development, reducing vulnerability, social inclusion and 
  3. social cohesion, people-centred governance, rule of law and human rights.

By consolidating and channelling money toward specific development actions, this Fund is outlined to stimulate the acceleration of Montenegro's entrance to the EU.
