Ice Cave
At the top of Obla Glava (Round Head), one of the many peaks of Durmitor is the Ice Cave at 2160 m above sea level. This peak was named so because of its shape, which reminded the people of the bold human head.
From the steep entrance, a plain 40 metres long mostly covered by perpetual snow, reaches the ice-covered cave floor. The Ice Hall is 40 meters long and 20 meters wide, leaving no one indifferent in front of its appearance. Namely, even in the middle of the hottest summer months, ice water is dripping here, from which 'blood in the veins' gets frozen.
What sets the Ice Cave apart is the incredible stalactites and stalagmites. There are many of them in the cave, and they represent a real fortune. Numerous ice columns of different dimensions and shapes emerged at the bottom of the cave, as the results of an amazing game of nature. Durmitor itself provides a variety of unique beauty, from lakes, forest areas, mountain peaks, to this Ice Cave.
It is recommended that tours of the Ice Cave should not be done without the help of professionals who know the terrain well and who know how to navigate through the area that has been under snow for most of the year.
