Catovica Mlini the Winner of the BIG SEE Tourism Award 2020
Catovica Mlini Konoba was selected and nominated by the BIG’s team. The BIG, officially an institution - Centre for Creative Economy of Southeast Europe, in practice is a big umbrella for a variety of compelling creative endeavours based in the City of Design, in the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana. The BIG is also an organiser of festivals Big Architecture, Wood Icon, Creative Tourism and Month of Design.
BIG SEE is the newest, latest and most exciting platform of BIG umbrella that systematically explores, evaluates, exposes and promotes business and creative excellence from Southeast Europe. It brings together 19 countries and 350 million people. It represents a unique forum and community for discussion and development of the cultural, economic and political role of the region and its importance and impact on the globalised world. The purpose of their work is to bring strong creative practices closer to audiences, in the larger region of Southeast Europe.
Catovica Mlini Restaurant was their choice for this year’s Tourism Design Award in the category of creative stories and identity as experience. 26 years ago, Lazar Ćatović has put a lot of work and love into the mill and the family house that has been in his family for over 200 years and turned them into a world-class tavern.
What makes Ćatovića Mlini unique is Lazar’s idea to preserve the harmony and union that the local people and nature created, together. All the work done at the tavern was conducted concerning the local tradition and culture and with a careful choice of every detail. Thanks to Lazar’s vision, the estate lives on.
What else can we say besides that we are extremely proud to partner people with vision such as Lazar himself, who is our long-term friend and business associate! Congratulations!
Note: Assuming the current COVID-19 situation, this year’s event and ceremony award will not be held in Ljubljana, as usual, but online.
