Rijeka Crnojevića
"Montenegrin Venice"
The famous Crnojević’s dynasty is related to Rijeka Crnojevića, this small town whose history begins in the middle of the 15th century, when the ruler of Montenegro Ivan Crnojević, transferred the headquarters of the state and the church to this region. Both the town and the river were named after his family last name. This is the area where the first Cyrillic book “Oktoih Prvoglasnik” was printed in 1494 and the place where the first pharmacy and weapons workshop in Montenegro were opened.
Today, this place of gorgeous and serene nature, with more than 200 inhabitants, is a real bait for tourists. There is a fantastic view over the same name river and over Skadar Lake. Particularly attractive for visitors is the bridge over the river. It is named after the prince Danilo, who built it in 1853, in the memory of his father. Rijeka Crnojevića can be reached by car, cruise boats, kayaks, and bicycles, or by public transport.
