Rikavacko Lake

Rikavacko Lake is located in the mountain range Kuči, near the peak Žijovo, which is at an altitude of 2,131 meters above the sea level. The lake is settled along the very border with Albania. Rikavacko Lake is not that high but is positioned at an altitude of 1313 meters above sea level. It is about 50 km away from Podgorica, but it is very reachable and you can drive to the lake by a car if you are coming across the Kuči mountains. 

The Lake Rikavacko used to be a place for living in the summer months (Katun) for Kuči people and their livestock, but later it almost became depopulated. In the last few years, people actually started to come back to nature, and in this place, there are more and more new or old renovated cottages.  If you have luck, you can find to buy an excellent, very tasty cheese from the people who hold their livestock here. 

The number of people who spend their holidays on the shores of the lake is increasing every year. This information is even more interesting when you know that there is still no electricity nor the signal for mobile phones. 

This place is ideal to refresh, relax and rest from the modern world and all the technologies which became our everyday. The nature around the lake is really beautiful, with grasslands fulfilled with many gorgeous wildflowers in the springs. Like some would say, nature here is a real fairy-tale.
