Description
Begin with a 30-minute drive to Perast, a historic seafaring town known for its baroque architecture. Perast features 16 palaces, 17 Catholic churches, and two Orthodox churches. Stroll its steep stone streets and learn about its heritage as a home to sailors, artists, and captains. The town is also famous for Peraška cake and offers views of the islands of St. George and Our Lady of the Rocks.
Next, take a boat ride to Our Lady of the Rocks, an artificial island with a Byzantine-style church. According to local legend, the island was built by sailors who dropped stones around a rock where an icon of the Holy Mother with Christ was found after a shipwreck. The church contains notable artwork and tapestries reflecting the area's maritime history.
The tour continues with a visit to Kotor's old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in a Mediterranean bay. Kotor is protected by a 4.5 km medieval wall and features landmarks such as the Sea Gate, the Clock Tower, noble family palaces, the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon, and the Maritime Museum that tells the story of the region's naval traditions.
