Novakovic Cave
The cave is located 28 kilometres from Bijelo Polje in the heart of the Vraneska Valley. In the words of Željko Madžgalj, one of the best experts on Montenegrin caves, “Although the cave has legal protection as a natural monument, its accessibility, patency and poor ecological culture have led to extensive damage, breaking of cave decorations in the most beautiful parts of the cave.”
According to the morphological characteristics of Novakovic cave, it is a “branched” speleological object. The cave is 605 meters long, and after a few meters of the narrow, entrance channel, the cave opens to a larger room. The cave is easy to pass, and the only difficult place is near the entrance to a place called Kula, where at the end of the narrow passage there is a smaller jump of three or four meters.
Among the locals, this cave is known by numerous legends and stories about hidden treasures and about how travellers who got into it, wandered for hours in its tortuous and mysterious labyrinths with numerous branches, trying unsuccessfully to find a way out. The most beautiful parts of the cave are the Hidden Chamber located in the upper part of the cave, as well as the parts called Enchanted City, Picasso, Frame, and Dado Djuric Gallery.
