The Zahumlje Cultural and Art Society - Nikšić, today known as the Public Institution Zahumlje, was founded at the beginning of the 20th century as a singing society, to immediately activate the drama club after its establishment. After more than one century of existence, Zahumlje is a symbol of Nikšić's cultural life, representing a link between tradition and modern times, a participant of many events and an institution of international renown.
Certainly, the most important and creative segment of Zahumlje today is the Folklore ensemble founded in 1975, which has more than 100 members. Thanks to the exceptional quality and high artistic level of its programs, this ensemble has been a member of the CIOFF (World Organization of Folklore) for many years. The folklore ensemble is exceptionally well-known and has won a number of awards and recognition at local and international folklore festivals in numerous European countries, as well as in the former Yugoslavia, within international folklore festival.
