Heritage Hotel Leon Coronato & Restaurant Djardin

Montenegro

Luxury Hotels Italian Seafood Mediterranean

The only heritage hotel in Montenegro named after the old Perast trade ship from the 17th century.

Perast is one of the most monumental cities in Montenegro. With numerous valuable buildings and houses as well as the Perast Museum, this place blows people’s minds once they visit and it stays as one of the most recognisable Montenegrin memories. It is a favourite spot of young couples worldwide, which often decide to get married in one of the stunning baroque venues available along the Perast coast.

One of our favourite spots in Perast has always been a cosy and beautiful garden of the Djardin Restaurant, located close to the Saint Nicholas church, with the stunning views over the 2 islets – Our Lady of the Rocks and Saint George. The newest addition to its offer is the wonderful old villa transformed into a hotel that started operating in summer 2019. The hotel has got its name after the trade Perast ship from the 17th century, called Leon Coronato.

After 300 years of roaming the unsettling seas, Leon Coronato finally sailed into its safe harbour, Perast. The size, sea-faced position, and original architectural style of the heritage hotel reflect the typical Baroque style architecture from the 15th century. Once named Vasel, Leon Coronato is the legacy of a Montenegrin family Martinovic- Brajkovic-Radulovic.

Leon Coronato, translated in English ‘crowned lion’, was one of the oldest Perast vessels used for trade in the seas. The family Martinovic – Brajkovic were one of the most recognised families of that era and Captain Marko Martinovic was one of the best-known seamen back in the 17th century when Perast started growing its maritime power and baroque attire. Cap Martinovic was the one teaching the Russian nobles about maritime sciences. His family owned over 40 vessels. The vessel was a typical boat of that era, with 3 masts, used for trading the goods. Perast’s most popular one was called Leon Coronato with a bow-adorned by the lion with a crown, and on the stern bore the coat of arms of the city of Perast, a cross-holding two hands. There were 10 cannons on each side and five large rifles each. It was owned by the family of Vick Smekje whose son Peter established the trade and communication with Baltic harbours of that time. This was the golden age of Perast, under the Venetian Republic, which has its marks even today, through the enormous historical and cultural heritage that Perast reflects.

Leon Coronato Heritage Hotel has 14 exclusive rooms with a bay view, it offers a peaceful seaside atmosphere and a traditional cuisine restaurant.

Restaurant Djardin

With rusting palms and waves breaking on the shore, in the natural environment of Boka, restaurant Djardin is located.

Restaurant Djardin serves traditional Boka Bay cuisine to an impeccable standard. The simple menu doesn't detract from the restaurant's charm, as the quality is flawless. Located on the sea walk, the restaurant has a spectacular view of the 2 islets - Saint George and Our Lady of the Rocks, well known to all the tourists. Catering to families with small children, the restaurant has its very own children's play area in one corner.

The name of the restaurant translated means the garden, as the place has a beautiful seafront garden, comfortable and practical for any sorts of gatherings or just a simple lunch or dinner. Right on the sea at the stone dock across the road of the hotel/restaurant building, the additional terrace is located, which is beautiful for romantic dinner just on the water or just a relaxing coffee time.
