Description
Montenegro declared its independence in 2006 but is better known for its medieval castles and historic settlements that reflect its rich past. The name Crna Gora means 'Black Mountains.'
The tour departs from your Tirana hotel in the morning in an air-conditioned vehicle, traveling along the Adriatic coastline northwards. A coffee break is scheduled by the Buna River near Shkodra fortress, one of Europe's oldest castles with over 2400 years of history.
After crossing the Albanian-Montenegrin border, the route heads to Budva, about one and a half hours from the border. Before reaching the Bay of Budva, the tour stops at Sveti Stefan islet, a popular photographic location and resort.
Budva is among the Adriatic's oldest settlements, dating back 2,500 years. It offers a well-preserved medieval walled city alongside unspoiled sandy beaches. Although damaged by a 1979 earthquake, its Old Town was reconstructed and now houses around 200 families, providing free time to explore before continuing.
The next stop is the UNESCO World Heritage city of Kotor, known for its medieval mountain fortress and artisan shops. You will have free time to explore the old city and its local shops.
In the late afternoon, the tour returns to the Albanian border and then back to your Tirana hotel for drop-off.
