Description
Shortly after leaving Podgorica, the route climbs through the hilly terrain known as Old Montenegro. A 30-minute drive through villages famous for wine and honey production leads to one of Montenegro’s best viewpoints. Here, you can see the winding submerged bed of the Crnojević River and the Skadar Lake National Park.
After another 10 minutes, the drive continues to Rijeka Crnojevića, a medieval town on Skadar Lake’s shores. This historic town is where the first South Slavic book was printed and where local boat cruises depart. Skadar Lake National Park is notable for its biodiversity, especially diverse birdlife and unique vegetation. A walk here offers an immersive cultural experience.
About 30 minutes later, the tour reaches Cetinje, Montenegro’s old capital and historical center. Cetinje hosts numerous museums, art faculties, and well-preserved architecture. The walk includes visits to Cetinje Monastery, home to valuable Christian relics, and the former residence of King Nikola Petrović, now a museum presenting Montenegro’s royal history.
Optional stops during the tour include village wineries for local wine tasting, boat rides on Skadar Lake, and the Lipska Cave, allowing you to customize your experience.
