Description
The tour begins with a drive from Podgorica through rural areas to Niksic, Montenegro’s second-largest city. Here, there is time for a short break to walk, enjoy coffee, or try the local Niksicko beer.
Continuing north, you enter a region of high mountains, canyons, glacial lakes, and old forests. You will visit the Black Lake in Durmitor National Park, walk through surrounding coniferous forests, and learn about the natural phenomena related to the lake and the UNESCO-protected Durmitor massif.
The itinerary includes a panoramic drive across the Durmitor plateau, visits to other glacial lakes, and a stop at medieval cemeteries, recognized as part of world cultural heritage. The day ends with exploration of the Tara Canyon, including a lookout point at its deepest part and a visit to the Đurđevića Tara bridge, offering expansive canyon views with crystal-clear water below. For adventure seekers, a zip line crossing the canyon is available.
Itinerary
- 8:30 a.m. - Pickup from your accommodation in Podgorica
- After approximately 45 minutes, arrive in Niksic for a walk near Petrovic Castle
- By 12:00 p.m., reach Žabljak and the Black Lake in Durmitor National Park
- Walk around the lake, then proceed to the lookout point over Tara River Canyon
- Approximately 4:00 p.m., visit the Đurđevića Tara bridge and spend about one hour there
- Return via Durmitor plateau with a visit to the medieval cemetery
- 8:00 p.m. return to Podgorica and drop-off at your accommodation
