If you look carefully, you will see a small labyrinth on the floor of the cathedral.

The cathedral was built in honour of St Tryphon, who was the patron and protector of the town, on the site of a church, which dates back to 809 and housed the remains of the saint himself.

Regarded as the largest and most beautiful building in Kator, the cathedral is not without its quirks: the two towers differ slightly in their design, due to damage that occurred during an earthquake in 1667, and funds would not extend to its full repair. Damaged again by the earthquake that shook Montenegro in 1979, the cathedral is now restored and has regained its former grandeur, but still bears the scars of Montenegrin history.

Costing only two Euros to enter, the cathedral also boasts a collection of historical artefacts, ornaments and figures depicting the ancient history of Kortor. A visit to St Tryphon Cathedral is a must for all those interested in Montenegro's cultural past.
