Plav Lake
Lake Plav is one of the most beautiful lakes in Montenegro. It is located in Plav municipality, which is North-East Montenegro. Plav Lake is located between two mountains named Prokletije and Visitor.
It is a glacial lake at an altitude of 906 meters above sea level, with a maximum length of 2,160 m and surface area 1,99 square kilometres, an average width of 920 m, and the maximum depth of 9 meters.
The biggest water-level in the lake is happening during the April and May, and the lake is lowest in summer, during August and September. The average annual temperature in Lake Plav is from 2,8 Celsius grades during winter months to 15,5 in the summertime. The lake often freezes during the winter and that usually lasts to the end of February.
When winters are very cold, the surface of the lake freezes and becomes a 20-30 cm thick ice in the area around the shores, so it actually becomes a walk-street for inhabitants and visitors of the small city of Plav.
The lake is very clear, with a very good providence, especially during summer months and in areas near the shores. Plav Lake is a very popular tourist attraction during the summer season and it is very rich with fish like chub, nase, trout and pike.
