in the Old Town of Kotor
Tavern Trpeza is located in the remarkable location in the middle of the wonderful and adorably romantic stone walls of the most beautiful Old town in Montenegro - Old Kotor. Precise location is Milk Square, just behind the small orthodox church of saint Luke's.Place where you'll eat delicious Boka Bay cuisine followed by other Mediterranean delicacies, but where you'll also learn a lot about Kotor's tradition!
The house in which tavern Trpeza is settled is 800 years old and it is a monument and a tradition keeper of the family Seferovic. This is not a restaurant, this is a treasury of history, museum of the Boka Bay gastronomy, witness of the life and history from these old walls, centuries young!
History of this place started in the tavern Lovcen (that was the name of this place back then) where people of Kotor were gathering for a glass of wine and to spend some quality time with friends. This was the only place on our coast with the female orchestra. Today, this is one of the main gastronomy spots on the Montenegrin coast, with the great reviews of their customers.
Owner of the tavern is respected seaman from Kotor, Mr Nebojsa Seferovic and his daughter Tamara. Mr Seferovic tends to keep the tradition of his family and the spirit of the life in Kotor which is based on hospitality, Boka cuisine, respect towards guests and quality! Beside Mr Seferovic, his daughter Tamara is also in love with this job and she is the tradition keeper together with her dad.
The interior of the tavern also reflects the glamour of the old times, perfectly combining wood and stone. Tables and chairs are made of 7 different wood types, with wooden beams on the ceiling and with folklore elements on the walls.
There are 2 terraces with charming furniture made of wrought iron and made comfortable thanks to soft colourful cushions. One can not miss to experience the sunset on the upper terrace, with the view towards the Kotor fortress followed by fine wine! When you experience this, you will understand how easy and pretty life can be.
Simply, the family who owns this place knows good food! They are known in Kotor as great cooks, especially mom and aunt of Mr Seferovic. But... himself also, as he is a great cook! He loves to do it and what he prepares for his family and friends is also included on the tavern's menu. He explained that he used to cook on the boat, when he was working as a captain and him and his colleagues always prepared food together.
Trpeza tavern serves seafood mostly, but if you really prefer to eat meat there are few quality options for you. All the fish is fresh and Mr Seferovic is in charge of that. Every morning he goes to the local market and buys only the most quality catch. The menu at Trpeza shows the cuisine of Mediterranean, but also Boka Bay. In the cooperation with the Local Tourism Organisation of Kotor they brought alive 3 authentic Boka meals, to learn their customers more about Boka cusine. Ask for Boka meals when in Trpeza.
The capacity of the tavern is 102 places including terraces. There are 50 places inside. It is fascinating how the good service and quality made this restaurant a favourite place in town and it's only operating for 3 years in this shape. The restaurant is open during the summer season, from May to November.
Clientele is mostly from Western Europe, but there are few agencies who bring guests from all parts of the world. Beside foreigners, Trpeza also has local guests, who are the most severe critics, as they also know Boka cuisine well.
The staff is well trained and English speaking. As you could see, this restaurant is succesfull complex story about a family who works with love and that's why they have great reviews! Visit them and see it yourself!
