Description
This small boat can navigate very shallow water, as low as 30 cm, allowing access to small islands and remote shore areas unreachable by larger vessels. The cruise passes shallow river channels and habitats for birds like cormorants, herons, pelicans, and wild ducks, offering excellent birdwatching and photography opportunities.
The journey begins from Virpazar, sailing through the Oraostica river channel. Between May and September, you will see blooming lotus water lilies leading to the open lake. The route continues into the Moraca River area, a rich delta of wetlands, marshes, and reed beds, one of the Balkans' most ecologically important zones.
En route, you will see Lesendro Fortress, an 18th-century landmark of historical significance on Skadar Lake. The Moraca section features carpets of water lilies, dense reeds, floating vegetation, and narrow channels ideal for boat exploration.
The northern islands of Skadar Lake are seasonal, surrounded by shallow wetlands abundant in aquatic plants and provide vital bird habitats. Species you may spot include Dalmatian pelicans, pygmy cormorants, herons, egrets, and migratory flocks.
The cruise ends with a swim at a picturesque lake spot before returning to Virpazar.
