Mausoleum at Lovcen mountain was made for one of the Montenegrin's biggest historical figures - Petar II Petrovic Njegos. The government of Montenegro on the 100 years since Njegos's death decided to build mausoleum instead of a small chapel where he was buried the first place. Croatian sculptor Ivan Mestrovic was chosen for the project, with the help of Harold Bilinic and Andrija Krstulovic.
Njegos chose this place at Jezerski Vrh as the spot where his bones will remain, so this is a really special monument among Montenegrins!
This Mausoleum represents one of Montenegro's top tourist locations, and a lot of Montenegrins are really proud of this cultural and historical monument!
