Hotel Onogost
Niksic
Cult place in Niksic, perfect compound of the tradition and modern hotel industry.
Hotel Onogost is one of the symbols of Niksic, located in the city centre, at the beginning of the main promenade, locally known as ‘korzo’.
This was the first A category hotel in Montenegro. It was opened back in 1955, after a couple of years of construction. People from that time (and amongst them the leading architect) says that workers were active day and night, working in 3 shifts, so they could finish the hotel on time.
Back then, hotel Onogost was famous for its hospitality, professional staff and service, which were unknown to the Niksic’s citizens up to that moment! This hotel was an innovator in the market, as they showed to the people of Niksic, Montenegro and wider region worldwide trends.
The hotel’s terrace was famous – whether it’s day or night. In the late 50s when the entire city falls asleep, the only active place in town was hotel Onogost and the restaurant's terrace. Orchestra or bands were performing jazz and classical music almost every night and lucky guests would often find someone to dance with. This proved difficult as the proportion of male and female guests was 10:1. Montenegro is still a mildly conservative country, and back in the 50s, it was part of ex Yugoslavian socialistic federation.
The glory of the old Onogost is well known and it was a big task for the new owners who bought the old hotel, with the intention to reconstruct it and make it set for the 21st-century hotel industry! The new owner promised to get the old glory back, as the future of the hotel will be based on the tradition and the reputation the old hotel had. Its name is an old name of the city of Niksic, which was given by Goths if we follow the historical writings.

Onogost today
The reconstructed hotel is open for guests during the whole year. Besides the accommodation, for approximately 280 guests, the hotel kept the restaurant area, which is very big and suitable for various events.
The hotel consists of an old and new pavilion. The old building has 63 accommodation units while the new part of the hotel contains 260 accommodation units. The hotel is currently under partial reconstruction, but it operates. Besides accommodation, this hotel includes a lounge bar with a terrace with 400 seats, a presentation room, a restaurant with 600 seats, a separate board restaurant, a cocktail bar and plenty of other facilities such as a library, reading rooms etc. The hotel offers single, double and triple rooms. All the rooms are covered with Wi-Fi.
Alongside the main restaurant, hotel Onogost offers a very popular lounge bar, with the famous terrace mentioned above. This restaurant is being reconstructed too and it is dedicated to the locals mostly. With its cosy and comfortable atmosphere, nice personnel and great food and desserts, lounge bar of Hotel Onogost have already become a favourite place for all generations.
Part of the hotel, as it is a very big venue, will be transformed into the Faculty Dorm, belonging to the Mediterranean Business School.
